SW Calgary Dancers at the 2009 Grey Cup

Pure Motion Dance Company has exciting news to share with the community! Two hundred students from the company performed in the 2009 Grey Cup Festival’s pre-game show at McMahon Stadium on Sunday, November 29th. These dancers had the opportunity to perform in front of 50,000 fans at McMahon Stadium and millions of viewers on national television!

Nicola Kozmyk, owner and artistic director of Pure Motion Dance Company comments, “We were so thrilled to be the only dance company in Calgary who was asked to provide dancers for this event. The Grey Cup pre-game show provides our young dancers with the opportunity to work with professional choreographers and technicians in a major live television production, and to perform with the “Stereos”, one of Canada’s most exciting new bands.”

Pure Motion Dance Company is located in Calgary’s South West community of Bridlewood (#60, 2525 Bridlecrest Way SW). Most of the company’s dancers live in Bridlewood and nearby southwest communities. The company is only in its second year of operation: “Being asked to perform at the 2009 Grey Cup is an important milestone for us as its shows the progress our dancers have been making. It is exciting to reward our students with the opportunity to represent Calgary and their dance studio to the rest of Canada. Our young dancers have been working extremely hard this past month and are excited to perform for family, friends, and all of Canada.”

Most of Pure Motion’s instructors will also perform at the pre-game show. Several of them are members of The Calgary Stampeders’ cheerleading squad, “The Outriders”. They will also be performing during the half-time show and throughout the game. This is Nicola Kozmyk’s fourth Grey Cup appearance as an Outrider. “I grew up watching CFL football. Being part of the Grey Cup festivities is the highlight of my year! This year’s Grey Cup Festival promises to be the biggest and best ever. The game sold out faster than any Grey Cup in CFL history. And of course nobody in Canada can throw a party like Calgary can. I hope that the members of our community will take the opportunity to attend the many events during Grey Cup Week.”

Pure Motion Dance Company offers a complete array of dance styles to students including Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Mommy & Me, Lyrical, Contemporary, Stretch & Conditioning, Hip Hop, and Performing Arts. Pure Motion Dance Company was Calgary’s first dance studio to offer Cheerleading.
